She started her professional career in 1990, in a non Broadway show called The Big Funk, by John Patrick Shanley. The show was later adapted to her first TV role, The Perfect Tribute. Her career started when she was commissioned for a part in the film Basic Instinct. In the film The Firm however that she was chosen as the woman leading the film for just the very first time and that too opposite famous actors such as Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman. In the 1990s Gwyneth collaborated alongside Hugh Grant on Mickey Blue Eyes and Julie Andrews for Relative Values. She portrayed Dr. Alex Blake on the well-known international crime thriller Criminal Minds.
